DENTAL NEWS AND NOTES
PCS Permit Holders- License Extension Available
The State Board of Dentistry is granting licensees holding a PCS (moderate) sedation permit that expired on October 31, an extension until December 31, 2023, provided the licensee/permit holder submits a letter attesting that the licensee has scheduled an inspection of the office to take place prior to December 31, 2023, and has met all other requirements for renewal (e.g., 20 CE credits related to sedation, certifying to credentialed staff, and other requirements).
The Board noted that the requirement to have an inspection of the office where PCS/moderate sedation is administered has been in effect since January 2022.
The Board made the decision to permit an extension out of respect for the schedules of dentists who perform the inspections on the Board’s behalf, and because patient care would potentially be interrupted if sedation services were not available.
Permit holders should be aware that offices need to be inspected once every five years. Those providing itinerant sedation services must have the equipment inspected every three years.
