Course Description:
The challenge faced by all clinicians today is to be equally aware of the medical considerations of agents commonly used in the practice of dentistry as well as the dental considerations of the medications frequently prescribed for the treatment of multiple systemic diseases. This program will present an overview of dental pharmacology for the whole dental team. Special emphasis will be given to those medications prescribed or administered in the practice of dentistry, as well as to those medications prescribed and administered in the treatment of systemic disease, whose actions, effects, or interactions with other drugs may also impact dental therapy.

- Discuss the pharmacology of medications commonly used in internal medicine, including drug interactions and contraindications.
- Identify appropriate prescribing practices and strategies for addressing prescription drug abuse and the role of the NJPMP
- Describe best practices for taking complete and accurate medical histories.
