Lunch Sessions, Education Series for Dental Team Members

The NJDA's VIRTUAL Lunch Session Series supports the educational needs of our members’ staff while satisfying licensure renewal requirements for FREE. The series is offered from March through October. Each course will be offered three times during lunch hours. This series is available to team members only – dental hygienists, dental assistants, lab techs, office managers and staff.

The New Jersey State Board of Dentistry published a notice that three new licensure requirements will need to be completed for license renewal on December 31, 2025 for dental hygienists and December 31, 2026 for registered dental assistants:

  • One hour of continuing education in preventing and controlling Infectious Diseases and managing personnel health and safety concerns related to infection control in dental settings.
  • One hour of continuing education in educational programs or topics concerning prescription Opioid Drugs
  • One hour of continuing education in educational programs in Professional Ethics and New Jersey law Concerning the Practice of Dental Hygiene or Dental Assisting.

Registrants must be employed by a current ADA member who purchased the Licensure Requirement Series.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS & DATES

The series is offered from March through October. Each course will be offered three times only during lunch hours.

  • In order to receive CE certification, attendees must be logged on for a minimum of 50 minutes per hour and complete a course evaluation for each course.
  • Each attendee must be logged into the program on their own device. Following CERP Guidelines, NO CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS WILL BE ISSUED WITH SHARED VIEWING.
  • These programs are NOT recorded and will NOT be available on demand. You must be logged in live during the specified times to receive credit.

Opioid Use Disorder: Current Landscape and Prescribing Guidelines for Dental Pain Management

CEUs: 1

Course Description: In this course, prevalence of opioid misuse, definition of opioid use disorder and types of opioids will be reviewed. You will learn about the current evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for dental pain management and regulatory guidelines.

  • To familiarize with the opioid epidemic in NJ and definition of opioid use.
  • To review the common types of opioids.
  • To learn about the current evidence-based guidelines on dental pain management and regulatory guidelines

Infection Control Update for the State of New Jersey

CEUs: 1

Course Description: Dental hygienists and assistants in the State of New Jersey are now required to complete at least one hour of required continuing education in the area of infection control for license renewal per the New Jersey State Board of Dentistry. This webinar will highlight requirements under this administrative ruling to include CDC infection control guidelines, modes of disease transmission, and strategies to ensure a safe dental visit for dental personnel and patients.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe modes of disease transmission and the chain of infection
  • Discuss strategies to prevent occupational exposures to blood and bodily fluids.
  • Discuss methods to ensure that patient-care items and environmental surfaces are safe for use.
  • Identify criteria for selection and use of safe dental devices.
  • Discuss methods to provide safe dental unit water and how to monitor water quality.
  • Identify strategies to evaluate YOUR dental infection control program.

Ethics in Dentistry

CEUs: 1

Course Description: This course is designed to review ethical decision making with regard to standards of care. Defining ethics and differentiating between morals and ethics forms for the basis for ethical decision making. Using the ADPIED process of care to adapt individualized treatment plans ensures delivering ethical care. We will discuss scope of practice and its importance to following best practices. Solving ethical dilemmas with ADHA code of ethics as guidelines. The course delves into informed consent, established standards of care and ethical responsibilities.
